About Our School

Background Information:

Kimberly Hampton Primary School at Ft Liberty is a 139,000 square foot structure designed to accommodate a population of approximately 800 prekindergarten through 1st grade students, and 93 staff.

The new facility is a 21st Century design concept, with 10 education Neighborhoods each consisting of 4 Learning Studios that surround a shared Learning Hub. Each Neighborhood has a Staff collaboration area, a Group Learning area, One-to-One Learning area, Kitchen/Discovery area, Student Toilets and Teacher Storage space. Operable glass partition walls separate each Learning Studio from the Learning Hub and adjacent Learning Studios, and provide for flexible teaching and collaboration arrangements.

Open concept features such as a Central Commons area with Performance Stage and Spanish Stairs, Dining area, Gymnasium and a Small Theater make up a major portion of the 1st floor. Other typical school featured areas including Music room, Art room, Information Center, Full Service Kitchen with Dual Serving Lines, Administration Suite, Central Storage and Information Technology are also located on the first floor.

The new school is a LEED Silver certified facility with sustainable design strategies and enhancements for energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems. 21st Century teaching tools such as a Green Roof, Solar Panels for hot water, Energy Dashboard for monitoring utility use, and a small Wind Turbine are incorporated into the building.

Hampton Primary School was honored to be a recipient of the Green Ribbon Award with the 2016 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Program. Its state of the art design promotes green awareness and Science Technology Engineering Arts Math (STEAM) instruction, and is both environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The building is used as a teaching tool for both students and the community through its exposed infrastructure “bones” and environmentally friendly features, to include solar panels, a wind mill, and roof gardens.

Our school is named in honor of Captain Kimberly N. Hampton. She was an honors graduate from Presbyterian College who never lost a tennis match. She became the battalion commander of the ROTC unit there, a job that prepared her to command the Delta Troop in the 1st Squadron of the 17th Calvary Regiment in Iraq. She was in her second term of military service when the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter she was piloting was shot down January 2, 2004. Captain Hampton was America's first female military pilot killed in combat by the enemy. Captain Hampton was stationed in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division.

The parents of Captain Hampton formed the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Foundation to celebrate the life and honor the memory of their daughter. You can visit the site to learn more about Captain Kimberly Hampton.
