March 14, 2025

Admin

Hampton Families,

We are halfway through the month of March, and spring will officially begin on March 20, 2025! We have several events occurring in the next few weeks. The end of the third quarter for PK-1 is March 27! Our teachers will be busy on Friday, March 28 during their teacher workday preparing report cards. Report cards will be issued on Monday, April 7. While there is not a scheduled day for PK-1 parent/teacher conferences, you can always contact your child’s teacher at any time to schedule time to review your child’s progress. Spring picture day is on Tuesday, March 25—look for information from PTA soon. Hampton’s Art Walk is scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 4:00-5:30 pm. Student Artwork is the highlight of the evening. We hope you will join us for a wonderful evening.   April is Month of the Military Child, and we will honor our youngest military-connected students throughout the month of April.  Spring Break is April 14-18. As always, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate you and your continued support of your child at Hampton!

March is National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month, and this year’s theme “Food Connects Us,” is a wonderful reminder of how food brings people together whether at family meals, school lunches, or cultural celebrations. Teaching young children about nutrition and healthy eating habits early helps set the foundation for a lifetime of wellness.

How Can You Celebrate at Home? Here are some simple ways to make healthy eating fun and meaningful for your child:

  • Cook Together: Involve your little one in simple meal prep, like washing fruits and veggies or stirring ingredients. This helps build healthy habits and makes mealtime special.
  • Explore New Foods: Try foods from different cultures to show how food connects people around the world. Talk about where different foods come from and why they’re important in various traditions.
  • Make Snack Time Nutritious: Offer colorful fruits, veggies, and whole grains for snacks. Let your child pick a new healthy food to try each week!
  • Stay Hydrated: Encourage water and milk as the main drinks to keep little bodies strong and energized.

Here are a few fun and engaging websites for your children to use, to learn more about nutrition!

Wishing you a happy and nutritious March!

Counselor's Corner

Greetings from your counseling team!

March is a great time to reestablish routines at home and at school, as we move away from the snow days and holidays of January and February and reacclimate to our normal schedule. This month we are discussing integrity as our PRIDE characteristic. We are reminding students of the importance of consistently making good choices. In April our First Grade Helicopters will use Paws in Jobland during their STEM specials time. This program allows students to explore different career paths. Oh, the places you’ll go Helicopters! Also in April, we will be celebrating the Month of the Military Child, so be on the lookout for exciting ways to join us.

We are always here to support our learners and their families. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Information Center

Information Center Thank You

On behalf of the Information Center, students and staff…

Thank you to all of the amazing parent volunteers who came and read to students during Read Across America week!

As a reminder:

  •  Students should be bringing home two library books each week. These are books that they chose independently, but may not necessarily be able to read independently yet. This provides a great opportunity for reading to and bonding with your child!
  • Please make sure to help your child return their books to school each week. They love getting new books with their classmates! If students return their books to their backpacks each evening, they will always have them at school!
  • Please do not put library books in backpacks with water bottles. Use the side pockets of the backpacks for water bottles…or place the books in a large zip lock bag.
  • We understand that accidents happen! If books get lost or damaged, please let your child’s teacher know or send Ms. Hurley an email at Alison.Hurley@dodea.edu.  Our policy is for parents to replace the books with a hardcover copy.

Thank you for sharing your children with us here at Hampton!

We enjoy helping them find books each week!

Art Notes

Kindergarten students have been busy building neighborhoods in art class!  Using basic shapes like squares, rectangles, and triangles, they collaged together houses, trees, and buildings to create a vibrant neighborhood scene.  To make their artwork come to life, students also drew fun details like flowers, cars, and even pets.  This project helped students explore shapes, colors, and fine motor skills while encouraging creativity and imagination.  Each neighborhood is unique and has its own personality, just like the artists who created them.

First grade students have been exploring the wonders of outer space while learning mixed media techniques.  After looking at pictures of things in outer space such as nebulae and galaxies, students got creative with chalk pastels to design their very own outer space backgrounds. They also experimented with primary colors and mixed them to create secondary colors.  Students cut these painted papers to create the planets.  The final touch was drawing a rocket ship!  After drawing and coloring their rockets, students cut them out and collaged all their pieces together into a beautiful outer space masterpiece!

Notes from the GYM

It’s easier to encourage your family to move more when you move with them. Your family may be walkers or bikers so why not go for a walk or a ride every night after dinner? Go ahead, it will be fun for all.  We are getting that extra daylight in the evening now so take advantage of it. Take time to learn what activities your family enjoys together and plan those activities into your day or weekend.

We are focusing on various activities this spring to include Animal Walks, Balances, Rolls, Locomotor Skills, Cup Stacking and some Parachute Fun, just to name a few. Please encourage your student to never give up when learning something new and always do their very best.

During our classes we are still practicing safe handling of all equipment used by students which also includes sanitizing all hands upon entry. If your student brings a water bottle for Physical Education class, please make sure it is filled with “water only.” If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to email me. Thank you.
