Hampton Happenings ~ February 2025
Hampton Families,
Our first semester ended on January 23 and our young scholars received their first official report card on February 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher. To honor our young scholars’ progress for the first semester Hampton Primary School held our first semester Progress Parade on Friday, January 31. The parade highlighted student selected achievements and goals based on what each child felt they have accomplished this year and included a goal for the second semester. We held the parade to honor ALL students at Hampton. We had great family attendance to honor our students! If you missed the first semester parade, don’t worry—we will have an end of year parade in June! We hope to see you there!
This month is busy at Hampton. This week we have celebrated the 100th Day, Valentine’s Day, and hosted our annual PreK Fashion Show. We will honor President’s Day on Monday, February 17 and we will have a teacher CCR day on Monday, February 24—both are days off for all students. Students will return to school on Tuesday, February 18.
As the weather continues to fluctuate between warm, sunny days and cold, rainy days, please ensure your child is dressed for the weather. Please help us with the safety of all students, staff and parents during arrival and dismissal. Be mindful of your speed during our arrival and dismissal and obey the staff member with the stop sign at our crosswalk. Our staff members are trying to ensure everyone on campus stays safe. We appreciate your support and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or Hampton Administration.

March is National Nutrition Month, and this year’s theme “Food Connects Us,” is a wonderful reminder of how food brings people together whether at family meals, school lunches, or cultural celebrations. Teaching young children about nutrition and healthy eating habits early helps set the foundation for a lifetime of wellness.
How Can You Celebrate at Home? Here are some simple ways to make healthy eating fun and meaningful for your child:
- Cook Together: Involve your little one in simple meal prep, like washing fruits and veggies or stirring ingredients. This helps build healthy habits and makes mealtime special.
- Explore New Foods: Try foods from different cultures to show how food connects people around the world. Talk about where different foods come from and why they’re important in various traditions.
- Make Snack Time Nutritious: Offer colorful fruits, veggies, and whole grains for snacks. Let your child pick a new healthy food to try each week!
- Stay Hydrated: Encourage water and milk as the main drinks to keep little bodies strong and energized.
Here are a few fun and engaging websites for your children to use, to learn more about nutrition!

Happy February! February includes National School Counselor’s Week, and the counseling team at Hampton is hard at work supporting the social and emotional growth of our Helicopters. We loved celebrating our first round of PRIDE award recipients in January. This month we are looking for Helicopters that consistently show RESPECT. This will be a difficult task, because we have so many respectful students here at Hampton! Ms. Smith will be on the Hampton Primary News this month to will discuss the “recipe” for being a good friend. The “ingredients” we will focus on include sharing, kindness, caring, truth and fun. We will enjoy watching all the good friends at Hampton celebrate their friendships on Valentine’s Day and every day!
We are always here to support our learners and their families. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

Kindergarten students have been busy building neighborhoods in art class! Using basic shapes like squares, rectangles, and triangles, they collaged together houses, trees, and buildings to create a vibrant neighborhood scene. To make their artwork come to life, students also drew fun details like flowers, cars, and even pets. This project helped students explore shapes, colors, and fine motor skills while encouraging creativity and imagination. Each neighborhood is unique and has its own personality, just like the artists who created them.
First grade students have been exploring the wonders of outer space while learning mixed media techniques. After looking at pictures of things in outer space such as nebulae and galaxies, students got creative with chalk pastels to design their very own outer space backgrounds. They also experimented with primary colors and mixed them to create secondary colors. Students cut these painted papers to create the planets. The final touch was drawing a rocket ship! After drawing and coloring their rockets, students cut them out and collaged all their pieces together into a beautiful outer space masterpiece!

Exciting things are happening in our Physical Education classes. We are getting active with locomotor skills and various other activities to develop needed skills for a lifetime activity and fitness.
Healthy Family Habit for the Month of February: With the holidays behind us at this point and the cold dreary weather starting to take its toll, your family may want to hibernate inside until spring arrives. But winter inactivity is meant for bears, and not humans! Find fun reasons to get outdoors. Winter sports, like skiing or ice skating, are fun for the whole family. Even if you bundle up for a simple daily walk around the neighborhood or play in the cold of your front yard, the fresh air and activity will do everyone some good.
Do not forget to dress for activity, especially your sneakers/tennis shoes. 😊
During this third quarter of school, your students Physical Education Class Day has CHANGED. Please pay attention to the information sent home from the neighborhood teacher for those changes.
