Hampton Families,

As we reflect on the past year, we have much to celebrate! Our helicopters have been busy since August learning new skills and having fun at Hampton! Our students have especially enjoyed the Festival of Trees activities throughout the month of December. Thank you, PTA, and volunteers, for your support of this learning experience. Parents, thank you for allowing your child to participate in these learning experiences and for your continued support of all we do at Hampton! As we depart for winter break, we wish each of you a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season. We are looking forward to an amazing 2025! We will see you when school resumes on Monday, January 6!

Nurse Notes

Aim for a Healthy Weight

National Healthy Weight Week

January 19th – 25th

For Kids, Healthy Habits = Healthy Weights

Healthy habits take work but pay off in the end. Here are six healthy habits to get you started.

  1. Eat dinner as a family.
  2. Switch off screens.
  3. Encourage outdoor physical activity,
  4. Make smart snacks an easy choice.
  5. Limit sugary beverages.
  6. Make time for good sleep.

Spending time as a family and modeling healthy behaviors for your children will set them on the right course for a healthy future. Most importantly, stay consistent about the foods you have in your home, exercising or playing actively together, and bedtime.

Counselor's Corner

Happy Holidays!  We hope that you and your family can find time to recharge this holiday season.   A great way to spend some time together during the holidays is with a family game night or movie night.  Board games are a great way to teach children how to take turns as well as how to be a good sport.  Movie night is a good way to discuss feelings because you can talk about how the characters in the movie felt.  All of these are skills children need to be successful.

When we return from winter break, we will start working on ways to have a growth mindset as well as ways to persevere.  We are looking forward to working with you and your child in 2025!

Also, please remember to notify your child’s teacher if he/she is going to be out of school. Being on time for school and keeping a routine is very important. Regular school attendance helps keep students on a schedule and teaches them to be responsible for their learning.

As always, feel free to reach out to us any time with questions or concerns.  We are happy to help.

Information Center

Read to your child quote

Happy Holidays from the Information Center!

During this busy holiday season, one of the best gifts you can give is to read aloud to your child!

Students should be bringing home two library books each week. These are books that they chose independently, but may not necessarily be able to read independently yet. This provides a great opportunity for reading to and bonding with your child!

Research shows that children who are read to:

  • Have improved interactions with their parents and peers.
  • Learn more about the world around them.
  • Are more successful in school overall.
  • Have improved self esteem.

Please make sure to help your child return their books to school each week.

They love getting new books with their classmates!

Also, please do not put library books in backpacks with water bottles. Use the side pockets of the backpacks for water bottles…or place the books in a large zip lock bag. We have had many books ruined this year already from leaking water bottles.

Thank you for sharing your children with us here at Hampton!

We enjoy helping them find books each week!

Art Notes

Greetings from the Art Room!

Kindergarten students finished up learning about lines by creating line sculptures.  They folded, bent, and curled paper strips to create 3-dimensional lines.  Some students discovered that their sculptures looked like amusement parks, playgrounds, skate parks, or even the ocean!

First Graders are in the beginning stages of creating a winter landscape.  They painted a background by mixing white with a color to create a tint.  Later, they will paint snow in the background and cut out trees from paper they painted with watercolors.  They will finish up by gluing the trees into the background and using Sharpies to draw details on the trees.  I can’t wait to see the finished landscapes!

Notes from the GYM

Heart-a-Facts from the GYM!

*Your heart is a pump that moves blood to all different parts of your body.

*The pump works when the heart expands (fills with blood), then contracts (pushes the blood out).

*When you are physically active, your heart works harder and faster to get your blood to the muscles you are using.

*When you are active, your heart must beat faster than normal.

To see how fast, try this experiment:

*Put you hand on your chest now. Can you feel anything, if so it’s a slow beat. Probably not much action of the beats if you have not been active.

*Now, do 25 jumping jacks, and then put your hand on your chest again. Do you feel anything this time? That is your heart beating faster to get oxygen the muscles you just used doing jumping jacks.

Stay active a keep your heart healthy 😊

**Please make sure your student is dressed for activity on their assigned Physical Education day.

Happy Holidays!!

The holidays are a long awaited season for families but not for all. Holidays can also have some difficult feelings connected to them. Missing a long gone family member, having to create your own celebration in a new area without your village of family and friends, keeping up with the expensive toys and gifts. This time can be rife with grief, anxiety and loneliness or some families struggle with gratitude from their littles ones after all the hard work that the holiday season requires. This is the season to give yourself grace and to really create a holiday season that looks and feels supportive to your own family regardless of what that looks like for others.

Experiences

Children are in dire need of attention and connection and an easy way to create this is through activities. They do not have to cost anything or can be inexpensive. Creating traditions, watching movies, baking holiday treats, decorating the home together and volunteering with your community are just a few of the inexpensive experiences you can give your family over the holidays.  Below are some links to promote mindfulness and keeping yourself grounded during the Holiday season:
