November 15, 2024

Admin

Hampton Families,

We had an amazing first quarter at Kimberly Hampton Primary School full of wonderful learning opportunities! We hope you were able to meet with your child’s teacher during conferences to hear all about the great learning taking place. If you did not get a chance to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time to meet. We had a fantastic start to our second quarter with Red Ribbon Spirit Week, our Book Character Parade, and Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you for your support! Monday was Veterans Day, and we want to say thank you to all those who have served our nation. We appreciate you!  November is the Month of the Military Family and we want to say Thank You for all you do! Your child’s success takes a team approach and we are glad we work together to support your child! As we approach Thanksgiving and the holiday season, we have much to be thankful for at Kimberly Hampton Primary School. It is with great pride that we serve the children of our nation’s military members. We are truly thankful for each student and family we serve. We hope you have a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving break.

Counselor's Corner

We had a great time celebrating Unity Day and Red Ribbon Week last month.  Thanks to everyone that participated in our spirit days.  We are looking forward to a busy and wonderful November.  During the month of November, we will focus on good manners and friendship skills.  A great way to teach good manners is by modeling.  We can also praise our children when they use good manners and take the time to discuss ways to show good manners.  Saying please and thank you as well as good morning and good afternoon are easy ways to teach children how to show good manners.

Also, please remember to notify your child’s teacher if he/she is going to be out of school.  Being on time for school and keeping a routine is very important. Regular school attendance helps keep students on a schedule and teaches them to be responsible for their learning.

If we can assist you or your child, please feel free to contact us.

Turkey Reading Books

Here at Hampton, we are thankful for books and reading!

Greetings from the Information Center!

Students have been working hard on learning how to retell fiction stories using story elements (characters, setting, plot, problem and solution).

This is an important skill you can practice at home after reading any fiction book. Here’s some simple ways to do this with your child.

  • Ask: WHO was in the story? These are the characters, who can be people, animals or creatures.
  • Ask: WHERE did this story happen? This is the setting, or time and place of the story.
  • Ask: WHAT happened? This is the plot of the story. All stories have a beginning, middle and end. The  characters will often also encounter some sort of problem, which has a solution.

Asking these questions at home improves your child’s listening and speaking skills, which are important skills to practice while learning to read!

Happy Reading, Helicopters! I am thankful for all of you!

Art Notes

Greetings from the Art Room!

Each quarter the specials schedule will change.  Please check which day your student is coming to art during the second quarter.  It is always best to dress for a mess on art days!

Kindergarten students are learning about lines!  Lines are a dot that went for a walk.  They have a beginning and an end.  Students are also learning the different names for some common lines.  They are exploring making different kinds of lines using a variety of art-making materials. They rotated through centers that included play doh, painting, collage, drawing with oil pastels and printing with paint and cardboard.

First Graders created fall collages inspired by the artist Eloise Renouf.  They started by creating a background for their fall trees.  Then they used printmaking techniques to make the branches on their trees.  On the last day, they cut out the trees and assembled their collage.  Some students were even able to show space by overlapping trees.

Notes from the GYM

Be a “Family on the Move”

When your family makes the decision to be more active, decide when and how you are going to be more active. Schedule your regular physical activity into your day so that it is part of your routine and not an add-on that you hope to get to.  And when things come up, plan around your physical activity so that it becomes a fixture in your life. Just decide to move, and then plan that movement into your day. Let’s keep our Hampton Families on the move.

Just for fun, try our Turkey Ninja Run.
