Students in Action: Hampton Co-Pilots Welcome Distinguished Guests
“Welcome to Kimberly Hampton Primary School!” — these are the first words visitors hear from the KHPS Ambassadors, known proudly as the Hampton Co-Pilots. Serving as official student representatives, the Co-Pilots play a vital role in welcoming new students, families, and distinguished guests to the school. The program offers students meaningful opportunities to develop leadership, communication, and stewardship skills, while also fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of student voice in a dynamic educational environment.
In addition to learning about the school itself, Co-Pilots gain insight into the legacy of Captain Kimberly Hampton, the school’s namesake. Working closely with the school counselor and AAPS teacher, the Co-Pilots collaboratively plan what aspects of the school they wish to highlight for visitors. As part of their training, students practice professional introductions, handshake etiquette, and public speaking.
On September 24, 2025, the Hampton Co-Pilots had the honor of guiding a special tour for distinguished guests: Mr. John H. Stoneburg IV, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Military Personnel and Quality of Life), and Ms. Jenna Shell, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (Army Quality of Life).
Co-Pilots Thomas Robinson and Vincent Sanchez began the tour at a display case showcasing personal artifacts from the Hampton family, including Captain Hampton’s elementary report cards and photographs from her tennis-playing days — offering guests a glimpse into her formative years.
The visit continued with an immersive look at KHPS’s 21st-century learning environment. The guests toured several Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) neighborhoods and learning studios, observing students engaged in family-style dining and interactive read-aloud sessions — hallmarks of the school’s student-centered approach.
The tour concluded in the Broadcast and Green-Space Studio, where Co-Pilots Mackensley Brown, Amelia Nunez, and Savannah Dubois shared insights about the Hampton News Network (HPN) and its role in student communication and media literacy.
The visit not only showcased KHPS's commitment to excellence but also highlighted the confidence and poise of the student leaders who proudly represent their school community.
